From the pool to the classroom

This year, the College of St. Benedict swim and dive team will be graduating five seniors. Of these five, three are planning on becoming teachers once they graduate. These seniors include Meghan Harder, Kaylee O'Connell, and Hannah Zobitz.   The three seniors have been swimming together since their first year of college at CSB and have been going through the education classes and requirements together as well.

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict swimming and diving team wrapped up its 2016-17 season with its annual banquet Sunday afternoon, and head coach Dan Eckberg handed out the team awards.   Sophomore Ashley Groebner was named the team's MVP, first year Lauren Christiansen won Most Improved, senior Amy Nemanich won the Blazer Award and first year Maggie Pomerenke was named Rookie of the Year.

After four years of swimming collegiately at the College of Saint Benedict, Abbey Brau has a new goal in mind.   Brau, a 2010 CSB alumnae, is shooting for the Open Water Swimming Triple Crown – which means completing three marathon swimming events.

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict swimming and diving team started its 2017-18 season with a solid win at the Hamline Invite Saturday afternoon.   CSB won nine events and had a pair of swimmers pick up two individual wins en route to scoring 449 team points at the meet, which featured four other MIAC teams.

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict picked up its second team win of the season Saturday afternoon at the Roger Ahlman Invite.   CSB won 10 events at the invite, hosted by Macalester in St. Paul, and scored 553 points to take first out of six teams. Kenzie Young won a pair of individual events and Kristina Rudin won two events, took second in another and was part of a third-place relay team.

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The divers led the way once again for the College of Saint Benedict swimming and diving team Friday and Saturday at the St. Thomas Invite. Maggie Pomerenke won the one-meter competition and Mallory Jarvi picked up a pair of top-three finishes to lead the team in St. Paul, Minn.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Despite record cold temperatures in normally sunny Florida, the College of Saint Benedict swimming and diving team competed – outdoors – at the Westminster Snowbird Invite Saturday morning as part of the team's training trip in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Fresh off its annual training trip to Florida, the College of Saint Benedict swimming and diving team jumped right back into competition and picked up a 216-50 dual win over Hamline Friday afternoon at the Warner Palaestra Pool on the SJU campus.   Allie Crum, Ashley Groebner and Kenzie Young all won two individual events to lead CSB, which won 13 total events.

CSB records 10 top-five finishes at UST Invite

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict swimming and diving team recorded 10 top-five finishes en route to a second-place finish Saturday afternoon at the UST Invite in St. Paul. Host-school St. Thomas won the four-team meet with 883 points, CSB scored 546, St. Olaf took third with 514 and Macalester finished fourth with 411 points.

JOSEPH, Minn. – No matter what events she was asked to swim this weekend, Kenzie Young was successful.   Young finished the weekend with a trio of top-three finishes – including two wins – and one other top-10 individual finish in two very different sets of events in two meets for the College of Saint Benedict swimming and diving team over the weekend.

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Senior Kenzie Young won three events to lead the College of Saint Benedict swimming and diving team in a MIAC dual against Carleton College Saturday afternoon.   CSB won seven events, but the Knights edged Saint Benedict 152-148 at the dual in Northfield.

For the second week in a row, Kenzie Young had a big week in the pool to lead the College of Saint Benedict swimming and diving team. Also for the second week in a row, the senior is this week's CSB athlete of the week. Young won three events against Carleton at the team's dual meet in Northfield over the weekend.

Young, Jarvi record personal bests at Gustavus

ST. PETER, Minn. – Senior Kenzie Young and sophomore Mallory Jarvi both recorded personal bests to lead the College of Saint Benedict swimming and diving team in a dual against Gustavus Saturday afternoon.   The Gusties won the MIAC dual 205-97, but Young swam a career-best time in the 1,000 freestyle to lead the swimmers in St. Peter, and Jarvi recorded the best 3-meter (11-dive) score of her career at the Warner Palaestra Pool on the SJU campus in Collegeville.
